T minus 16 days til the days begin to get longer again and then the egg production will slowly begin to pick up. As fast as I collect a dozen eggs and put them in the refrigerator, they are sold. Hopefully, the newest hens should start producing small eggs in about 2 weeks which will help the egg shortage a little. But that’s… (more…)
So, the hot weather hit, the hens stopped laying much for a few weeks, started to pick up again, first with larger eggs then with more eggs of the larger size. Then hot weather hit again, the production took another nose-dive that didn’t recover. I even noticed a few hens molting…. They had plenty of food, the feeders were full. I… (more…)
So, I thought things were settling down after I moved the flock that was being eaten by an unknown predator from the back field to the field by the house. But then the hot weather hit… well, what?… 3 days of heat?…. Just enough to put the hens off… the number of eggs produced dropped, and of course, my sales increased. Ain’t that… (more…)
