WAITING FOR THE DAYS TO GET LONGER

T minus 16 days til the days begin to get longer again and then the egg production will slowly begin to pick up. As fast as I collect a dozen eggs and put them in the refrigerator, they are sold.  Hopefully, the newest hens should start producing small eggs in about 2 weeks which will help the egg shortage a little. The Perfect Egg

Been working hard the past few months to get all the ingredients I use for the hens upgraded to USDA labeled “organic”.  Not an easy feat, especially when the protein sources have to be soy and corn free as well.   For example, I use some nutritional yeast in the feed for the protein.  If I upgrade to the “OMRI list”… (more…)

Chicks at 7 Weeks

Almost 2 months old… T minus 15 weeks til they begin to produce more eggs.  I moved them out onto pasture the other day after work.  Think I’m going to try some electrical fence netting to allow them more pasture when they are older but keep them separate from the older flock.  That way I can see if the older… (more…)
