Chickens on Strike

It has been a most disappointing summer, egg-wise. Nothing I did would coax more eggs from the girls. Yesterday, there wasn’t a single egg in the nest boxes. No offense, girls but I’m feeding you. Honeybee Central

So, I went and picked up four 2lb packages of bees with queens.  The ride home was uneventful, and the installation was going pretty good til it decided to rain. (What a surprise, eh?).  I tried to move as quickly as possible but the bees and the hives got wet. And I found out that wet bee suits make honeybees… (more…)

WAITING FOR THE DAYS TO GET LONGER

T minus 16 days til the days begin to get longer again and then the egg production will slowly begin to pick up. As fast as I collect a dozen eggs and put them in the refrigerator, they are sold.  Hopefully, the newest hens should start producing small eggs in about 2 weeks which will help the egg shortage a little.
