5 Ways to Promote Positive Mental Health

Positive mental health is a great way to ensure you lead a long, happy and healthy life. Maintaining your mental health is easier than most people think and will have a significant impact on your everyday life.
Would you like to have more energy? What about a good night sleep? How you would like to go an entire year without catching the flu once? Achieving a positive mental health state will not guarantee these things, but it sure will help.

Here are the top 5 things you can do to help promote positive mental health in you and your children:

1. Eat Healthy. Eating fast food 3 times a week and downing a few cold ones before bed might be easier than making a home-cooked meal and more enjoyable than drinking a cold glass of water but it won’t do a whole lot for your health. Eating home-cooked foods (especially fruits and vegetables) and staying away from the fast food joints will help you achieve the healthy lifestyle you desire.

2. Drink Lots of Water. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, average individuals are expected to consume at least eight glasses of water a day. And while this seems like it may be a lot, it’s actually not. Eight glasses is almost equivalent to filling up your water bottle a few times between waking up and going to bed. Remember, if you work out, you will need to increase your water intake to compensate for the water you’re burning off while exercising. Drinking water will detoxify your body and restore it back to a healthy state – especially after drinking coffee or alcoholic beverages.

3. Kick the Bad Habits. We’ve already mentioned it a few times but eliminating significant alcohol intake will have positive results on your mental health. Likewise, kicking other bad habits like smoking and drinking considerable amounts of coffee will also help keep your mental health at its best.

4. De-Stress. Stress is one of the leading causes for poor mental health. When you’re stressed out, your body has to work harder to keep up and, overtime, it will take its toll on your body and your brain. Next time something stressful happens, try lighting some candles and taking a bath. If that doesn’t work for you, try letting off some steam by going to the gym or going for a run. Keeping a positive frame of mind will promote positive mental health and eliminate undue stress on your brain.

5. Book Regular Check-ups. Unfortunately, you can do all of the things listed above and still suffer from mental health problems. In fact, you might have a mental illness and not even know it. Make sure you’re mental health is in good condition by booking regular appointments with your doctor. He/she will be able to confirm whether you’re lifestyle is healthy or identify where you may need to make some changes.

Tips to Live Green in 2010

Being eco friendly or living in an environmentally friendly way is often preached to us from the media, government, friends and colleagues. But eco friendly living can often be confusing with mixed messages coming from different quarters.

For instance some people claim bio-diesel is a green fuel as it produces les CO2 than conventional fuels. Others argue it takes up valuable arable land and that the fuel is essentially foodstuffs that could go to feeding people. So it becomes difficult to know who to believe.

And as being green is all about thinking about how individually we effect the environment – often what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work, or can be practical, to another.

However, there are a few things that many people agree can go a long way to helping the environment and most people can fit into their lives:=

Recycling. Recycling is perhaps the most important thing that we can do that directly help the environment. When you consider how much rubbish each of us throw away each year it soon becomes clear that reducing that amount will make an individual difference. Recycling bins go a long way to make things easier too.

Buy organic products where no harmful chemicals/pesticides have been used. Whilst they may be more expensive but anything we can do to help prevent pollution of our countryside and seas will benefit generations to come. Its not just about organic food either, organic clothing and other organic products are available.
Try and use natural alternatives. What was good for grandma is probably good for the planet too. Old fashioned methods such as drying clothes on an clothes airer will not only cut down on your carbon footprint but also reduce your energy bills.

Try different energy methods. Hybrid cars are one way of using new technology but replace some of the battery powered stuff with say solar powered gadgets. Even consider using solar powered chargers to recharge your laptop or ipod. Every little bit helps.

6 Tips to Living a Balanced Life

Living in a hectic world such as ours can sometimes get to us. You may feel like you’re completely exhausted nearly all of the time. You work 50 or 60 hours a week, run all over town after work, and by the time you get home, you’re spent. There’s nothing left for your family or your dreams. Nearly everyone has experienced this feeling at some point in their life. What is the key to getting out of this never ending pressure? Living a balanced life is essential for everyone.

One of the most successful business people of all time, Oprah Winfrey, said, ‘I’ve learned that you can’t have everything and do everything at the same time.’ This may seem simple, but it’s also great advice. This is quite possibly the issue that gives everyone the most trouble. We want to be the most successful business person, have the most friends, have the best family, and still have time to relax.

While you can do many things in your life, the key is to prioritize them. You can’t try to do everything all at the same time. First of all, you must have goals that guide your daily actions. They will help point you in the right direction. If you don’t do something that moves you in the direction of your goal every day, then you’re living your life for someone else. This is not the key to living a balanced life.

Second, you have to prioritize your actions before its time to do them. The night before is a great time to think about what you’d like to accomplish. Every night, write down the six most important things you want to accomplish the next day. Don’t worry about writing 20 things, just six. Put the most important one at the top and work on it until you get done. Then move on to the next one and so on. This will help you achieve balance in your daily activities. It will help you focus on what is really important to you.

In every area of your life, there must be balance. You can’t save all your money and you can’t spend it all. There must be a happy medium that only you know. It’s your job to find this balance. You can’t work all the time, but you must have a job. Go with your instincts in every area. Just remember to maintain balance in every situation.
