So, the chickens remained on strike and it didn’t make sense to buy new chicks since they have to be 5 months old in order to start laying. So, all the signs for “eggs for sale” have come down and a flyer in the Egg Station has been posted, notifying folks that there won’t be any more soy free eggs available, at least… (more...)

So, all the signs for “eggs for sale” have come down and a flyer in the Egg Station has been posted, notifying folks that there won’t be any more soy free eggs available, at least from me. I’ve contacted a group that re-homes chickens if you can believe that. So very soon it will be a very empty field. Guess it had to happen sooner or later.

As much as I’d like to pick up where I left off once I get back home, I’m not sure it’s in the cards for me to have that kind of room or time really. I promised myself the focus would be on training and showing the shelties. So the web site will be changing again to reflect my present focus.

If anyone out there wants a few chickens, all you have to do is catch them and transport them back home with you. Since I can’t promise what kind of production they will have in the future, I don’t feel comfortable asking for any money. But call soon, ’cause I don’t know when the chicken re-homers will be up to collect them.

Once again, thank you to everyone who supported the effort.

Thanks for everything!

But pretending it is worth more than someone is willing to pay is silly to me. So let’s see what another drop in price will do. It certainly has changed my intial vision of… (more...)

It certainly has changed my intial vision of how I would return home, but I’m keeping an open mind.

The rain and cold weather has motivated me to push forward, and it looks like the chickens have gone on a permanent strike, so it is time to remove them as well. That is the end of the Soy Free egg business. The honeybees will maintain the farm deferral status.

Anyone want to take bets on the end result?

It has been a most disappointing summer, egg-wise. Nothing I did would coax more eggs from the girls. Yesterday, there wasn’t a single egg in the nest boxes. No offense, girls but I’m feeding you. I need something back in return! Had to put a sign up on the refrigerators so folks wouldn’t wonder what happened. Maybe the chickens are… (more...)

Had to put a sign up on the refrigerators so folks wouldn’t wonder what happened. Maybe the chickens are ticked off because I’m selling the place. Naahhh… looks like some of them are molting, so that accounts for some of them. Who knows…. giving extra protein didn’t do the trick this year.

At any rate, now that the days are getting shorter, I have to wonder if I’ll be seeing much for the rest of the year. I’d get a new flock of chicks to start if I were staying but it doesn’t seem to make sense to go thru all that if whoever buys this place decided they didn’t want chickens. Talk about a waste of time and money.

No eggs today either. I am bummed.
